Amid news that WhatsApp could be integrated with Instagram and Facebook Messenger, a new security feature is set to be rolled out for the messaging service. According to reports, WhatsApp will now give users the option to add Face ID or Touch ID authentication before messages can be read.

WhatsApp is already known for its security, with end-to-end encryption a key feature of the platform. The new function — which can be enabled or disabled — means that the Facebook-owned app will have another layer of security once the phone has been unlocked. The upgrade is available to WhatsApp users with the latest update, and can be accessed through the Settings menu.
