Audi has just given an official look at its 2020 rear-wheel-drive R8 V10. Originally offered as the RWS in a limited run of 999 units, the rear-wheel-drive Audi R8 was directly derived from the R8-LMS racing car. Due to popular demand from owners and race enthusiasts, Audi Sport GmbH has pushed forward in making this rear-wheel-drive variant a standard option in its flagship supercar lineup.

Due to the absence of the components found in the customary AWD Quattro version, the 2020 Audi R8 V10 RWD sheds 143 pounds, making for a quicker and more tail-happy version of the R8. Powering the new R8 is a 5.2 liter V10 FSI engine that puts down 540 horsepower and 398 lb-ft of torque. Matched to a seven-speed S tronic and mechanical locking differential, the RWD R8 can sprint from 0-62 mph in 3.7 seconds.

Each vehicle will be largely made by hand at the Böllinger Höfe production facility in Neckarsulm, where they will later be sold in the European market early 2020; there’s no word yet on North American availability. Pricing starts at €144,000 EUR (approximately $160,000 USD).
